Delaware Men's Lacrosse Routs
Hartford 25-5
NEWARK, DE -- Senior Sean Carney scored
four goals and dished out two assists and 12 other
University of Delaware players scored a goal as the Blue
Hens routed Hartford 25-5 in an America East men's lacrosse
game Saturday at Rullo Stadium.
The Hens, off to a 2-0 start for the first time since
their NCAA Tournament season in 1984, remained 2-0 at the
new Rullo Stadium, outscoring opponents 44-13. The 25 goals
was the highest output for Delaware since a 25-6 win over
Lehigh in 1984 and the 20-goal win margin was the highest
since a 26-4 victory over Lehigh in 1983.
Carney (Lakeland-Panas/Yorktown, NY) scored all of his
career-high four goals in the first half as the Hens pulled
away from a 4-3 lead with 3:29 left in the first quarter by
scoring seven straight goals for an 11-3 lead with 10:40
left in the first half. He scored two goals in the final
five minutes of the second quarter to give the Hens an 18-4
halftime lead.
All-American John Grant added three goals and
three assists, Jason Lavey (Harborfields/Huntington
Station, NY) and Dennis DeBusschere (Garden City, NY
HS) each added three goals, and Kevin Lavey
(Harborfields), Pete Duncan (Boonton/Mt. Lakes, NJ),
Chris Purpura (Loyola/Baltimore, MD), and Chris
Bickley (Abington, Pa. HS) all scored twice for the
Hens, who outshot Hartford 54-12.
Hartford got three goals from Tracey Kulesky while Todd
Richard and Tom Hanas each scored goals and Frank Branca
dished out two assists.
