Grant Leads Delaware Men's Lacrosse Over Navy, 11-8

 

NEWARK, DE -- John Grant recorded four goals and four assists and reached 100 career points and Dennis DeBusschere added three goals as No. 8 ranked University of Delaware continued its winning ways with an 11-8 men's lacrosse win over No. 10 Navy Saturday at Rullo Stadium.

The Blue Hens, one of just three NCAA Division I teams without a loss, improved to 6-0 for their best start since the 1972 team started out 6- 0. The Hens have also won nine straight games since last season and defeated Navy for just the second time in 16 all-time meetings. The Midshipmen (4-3), held in single digits for the first time this season, got three goals from senior Brad Gilroy (Boys Latin/Linthicum, MD).

Delaware's Sean Carney (Lakeland/Yorktown, NY) snapped a 2-2 tie with a goal five minutes into the second quarter and the Hens led the rest of the way. DeBusschere (Garden City, NY HS) scored with four seconds left in the first half to give the Hens a 6-4 lead and the Hens outscored Navy 2-0 in the third quarter and led by at least three goals the rest of the way.

Grant, a senior All-American from Peterborough, Ontario, upped his team leadership in points to 38 after six games. Grant reached 100 career points (62 goals, 43 assists) in just his 21st career game with the Blue Hens. Jim Bruder (Malvern/Villanova, PA) added two goals and two assists for the Hens, including the 100th goal of his career, and Carney added three assists to pace the Hens. Senior goalkeeper Ron Jedlicka (Mahopac, NY HS) posted 15 saves.

J.L Reppert (Loyola/Lutherville, MD) had a goal and an assist and Mickey Jarboe (Calvert Hall/Towson, MD) posted 20 saves in the nets for Navy.
