Blue Hens Compete
in Four Relays
PHILADELPHIA -- The University of
Delaware men's outdoor track and field team competed in four
relay events at the Penn Relays at the University of
Pennsylvania's Franklin Field Friday afternoon.
The 4 x 200 meter relay team placed sixth
in its heat while the 4 x 400 meter relay was seventh in its
heat and the 4 x 100 meter relay finished eighth in its
heat. The distance medley relay team placed 36th
overall.
The 4 x 200 meter relay team of Ed
Montalvo (Bridgewater-Raritan/Bridgewater, NJ),
Brandon Jones (Pennsbury/Newtown, PA), Emeka
Igwe (Dickinson HS), and Asher Ailey (West
Windsor/Plainsboro, NJ) ran to a time of 1:28.83 to place
sixth in its heat. Texas Christian won the race in a time of
1:20.39.
In the 4 x 400 meter relay, Delaware's
team of Igwe, Peter Lenz (McKean HS), Brian
Demlein (Christian Brothers/DeWitt, NY), and
Ailey was seventh in a time of 3:20.45. Temple won
the race in a time of 3:12.54.
In the 4 x 100 meter relay, the Blue Hen
combination of Montalvo, Jones, Ramsey
Moorman (St. Mark's HS), and Ishmael Fontaine
(St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) placed eighth in a time of
50.44. Temple won the heat with a 42.09 clocking.
In the distance medley relay, Delaware's
team of Pat Riley (St. Mark's), Lenz, Ailey,
and Mike Innis (Arlington/Paughquag, NY) placed 36th
overall in a time of 10:23.04. Fairleigh Dickinson took top
honors with a time of 9:46.44.
Delaware will compete in its third and
final day of the Penn Relays Saturday with Sam
Yarrington competing in the hammer throw beginning at 11
a.m. and the 4 x 800 meter relay team running at 4:25
p.m.
