WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ -- University of Delaware men’s and womens’ track and field athletes posted 20 top 10 finishes to make a solid showing at the Monmouth University Season Opener Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Hen men recorded 11 top 10 finishes led by Matt O’Brian’s (St. Mark’s/Bear, DE - at right) third place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:09.18 while the Delaware women had nine top 10 finishes led by a second place finish by Annie Kowtuniak (Westmont-Hilltop/Johnstown, PA) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:19.79). Her time was the third best time in that race in school history.
Also for the Blue Hen men, Kyle Casella placed fourth in the hammer (161-10) and 15th in the shot put (42-8), Alex Gambogi was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:10.54), Kevin Kemmerle was fifth in the 10,000 meters (33:08.93), Matt Arbaugh and Chris Martens tied for seventh in the pole vault (12-6), Craig Sabatini was eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:36.26), Adam Cianfichi was nine in the javelin (157-4), Dave DiVirgilio was ninth in the pole vault (12-6), Mike Hazeltine was ninth in the 10,000 meters (33:37.52), and Doug Alpers was 10th in the discus (132-0) and 18th in the shot put (41-11 1/4).
Also for the Blue Hen women, Colleen Reid was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:36.64), Julianne Twomey was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (13:18.52), Leslie Lynch was sixth in the discus (117-3), Nicole Ambrosino was eighth in the discus (111 6), Annie Fulton was ninth in the triple jump (32-10 1/2) and 22nd in the triple jump (14-5), Angela Pollino was ninth in the hammer (105-7) and 11th in the shot put (33-6), Laura Milazzo was 10th in the hammer (103-9), and Kaitlyn McGowan was 10th in the pole vault (9-0).
