Delaware Men's Track Posts Four Seconds at Lehigh Games Meet; Hens Place 20th in 4 x 800m Relay at Penn Relays

BETHLEHEM, PA -- The University of Delaware women captured seven first place finishes and the Blue Hen men posted four second place showings to lead the UD outdoor track and field teams at the Lehigh Games Saturday afternoon.

The meet was a non-scoring meet that also included teams from Lehigh, Kutztown, East Stroudsburg, DeSales, Monmouth, Keystone, Lafayette, and Muhlenberg.

Also on Saturday, Delaware closed out the Penn Relays with the Delaware men placing seventh in their heat and 20th overall in the 4 x 800 meter relay. The Blue Hen tandem of Tim Brock, Will Jurkowski, Corey Wall, and Mike Zeberkiewicz ran to a time of 7:46.36. Delaware State won the heat in a time of 7:38.12.

At Lehigh, the Delaware women got multiple wins from Alexi Capsouras, who captured the 400 meter hurdles (1:05.61), ran a leg of the winning 4 x 400 meter relay team, and placed third in the 100 meter hurdles (15.370, and Alex Francis, who also ran on the winning relay, captured the 200 meters (26.73), and was fifth in the 100 meters (13.10).

Also capturing first place for the UD women were Christina Antonopoulos in the 5,000 meters (18:06.12), Yianna Antonopoulos in the 1,500 meters (4:47.84), Laura Chirico in the pole vault (12-1 1/2), and Leah Putman in the long jump (17-7). Stephanie Taylor and Kellyn Wright also ran in the 4 x 400 relay.

Taking second for the UD women were Kelli McDonald in the pole vault (11-11 3/4), Paula Green in the 200 meters (26.85), and Karen Mandrachia in the 1,500 meters (4:49.36).

For the Delaware men, the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Nick Morrisey, Kyle Nagy, M.J. Rawls, and Jeree Turlington placed second in a time of 43.37, Jeremy Simkins was second in the 400 meter hurdles (54.87), Kevin Kemmerle (at right) was second in the 5,000 meters (15:52.24), Kyle Hackett was second in the 200 meters (23.30), and Kevin McCove was third in the triple jump (41-5) and in the 4 x 100 meter relay (43.37) with Hackett, Simkins, and Ross Shober.
