CONWAY, S.C. -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s track and field teams opened the 2009 outdoor season Friday and Saturday and by competing at the Shamrock Invitational at Coastal Carolina University.
Delaware posted five top 10 finishes on the men’s side, including a fourth place finish by George Vallone in the pole vault, and seven top 10 finishes on the women’s side, highlighted by a first place finish by Cristine Marquez in the 400 meters.
Also for the Delaware women, Kelli McDonald was third in the pole vault (11-5 3/4), Kristi Cox was third in the 400 meters (57.83) and sixth in the 200 meters (25.75), Jennifer Holly was sixth in the pole vault (11-5 3/4), the 4 x 200 meter relay team of Marquez, Asia Hollis, Cox, and Megan Wiseman was eighth (1:42.21), Leah Putman was ninth in the triple jump (35-5 1/4), and the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Hollis, Cox, Marquez, and Wiseman was ninth in 49.22.
Also for the Delaware men, Jeremy Simkins (at right) was seventh in the 400 meter hurdles (54.98), the 4 x 200 meter relay team of Simkins, Vinny Fronczkowski, Justin Molligan, and Nick Morrisey was eighth (1:29.01), the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Ross Shober, Kyle Nagy, Simkins, and Morrisey, was ninth (42.97), and Shober was 10th in the long jump (21-2).
Delaware will be in action next Saturday at the Towson University Invitational.
