PRINCETON, N.J. -- The University of Delaware men’s outdoor track and field squad opened the IC4A Championships at Princeton University’s Weaver Stadium Friday evening by competing in two events.
Senior Chris Bourke (at right) placed 17th in the 10,000 meters while sophomore John Viotto finished 28th in the discus throw.
Viotto, who placed fourth in the discus at the Colonial Athletic Association championships in April, finished 28th out of 31 competitors with a toss of 143-feet, 6-inches. Virginia senior Yemi Ayeni won the title with a throw of 196-7.
Bourke, who also placed fourth in the 10,000 meters at the CAA championships, posted a 17th place showing out of 24 runners with a time of 31:03.59. Andrew Ledwith of Iona captured the race with a clocking of 28:45.77.
University of Delaware men’s and women’s athletes will continue action Saturday and Sunday at Princeton.
On Saturday, the UD women will have Amanda Marshall competing in the hammer throw at 1 p.m., Laura Chirico, Kelli McDonald, and Jen Holly in the pole vault at 3 p.m., Cristine Marquez in the 400 meters at 4:05 p.m. and the 200 meters at 5:25 p.m., the 4 x 100 meter relay of Kristi Cox, Asia Hollis, Marquez, and Alexa Windsor at 2:45 p.m., the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Christina Antonopoulos, Yianna Antonopoulos, Karen Mandrachia, and Kellyn Wright at 5:45 p.m., and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Alexi Capsouras, Cox, Hollis, and Marquez at 6 p.m.
For the men, Jim Schwendtner and Connor Whitesel will take part in the hammer throw at 10 a.m., Jon Gomez will compete in the javelin at 12 noon, Jeremy Simkins will run in the 400 meter hurdles at 12:35 p.m., the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Mike Tait, James Townsend, Nate Twer, and Corey Wall will compete at 1:20 p.m., and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Vinny Fronczkowski, Justin Molligan, Nick Morrisey, and Simkins will compete at 1:45 p.m.
On Sunday, Viotto will compete in the men’s shot put at 10 a.m., Jillian Seamon will take part in the women’s javelin at 10:30 a.m., and Marshall will compete in the women’s discus at 1 p.m.
