University of Delaware Outdoor Track & Field Teams Win 12 Events at Rider Invitational

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- The University of Delaware men’s outdoor track and field won six events and placed second in the team standings and the Blue Hen women won six events and placed third as a team at the Rider University Invitational Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Hens, in their final tune-up before the Colonial Athletic Association Championships next weekend, enjoyed an outstanding afternoon as they captured 12 individual titles and were runners-up in five other events.

Sacred Heart won the men’s team title with 163 points followed by Delaware, Rider, New Jersey Tech, Monmouth, and St. Peter’s. Rider won the women’s title with 180 points followed by Sacred Heart, Delaware, Monmouth, New Jersey Tech, St. Peter’s, and Georgian Court.

Delaware’s Amanda Marshall dominated the weight throw events as she captured three individual titles, winning the hammer (151-3), shot put (41-7), and discus (135-3).

Also capturing titles for the UD women were Alexi Capsouras in the 100 meter hurdles (15.34), Julia Somers in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:42.95), and the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Cristine Marquez, Kristi Cox, Asia Hollis, and Alexa Windsor (50.06. Finishing second for Delaware were Megan Wiseman in the long jump (16-2 1/4) and Yesenia Boynton in the 400 meters (1:02.37).

On the men’s side, Wes Chandler won the 200 meters (22.94), Nate Twer won the 800 meters (1:57.23), Gregg Cantwell won the 1,500 meters (4:04.34), John Viotto captured the shot put (49-6), Connor Whitesel (at right) won the hammer throw (170-6), and the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Ross Shober, Kyle Nagy, Jeremy Simkins, and Nick Morrisey won in a time of 43.94.

Finishing second for the UD men were Kevin McCove in the triple jump (39-4), Chase Renoll in the discus (153-8), and Jim Schwendtner in the hammer (164-1). Chandler was also third in the 400 meter hurdles (59.74) and Schwendtner was third in the hammer (164-1).
