SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s track and field squads captured four first place finishes - all in the field events - to highlight participation at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet Monday evening at Swarthmore College.

The Blue Hen women captured three titles as Amanda Marshall won the hammer, Jillian Seamon captured the javelin, and Kelli McDonald was the winner in the pole vault. All three women also set Swarthmore Track records in the process.

Delaware had just one individual winner on the men’s side as Connor Whitesel (at right) won the hammer, but the Hens posted 16 other top 10 finishes in a meet that featured over 20 schools from the East coast.

McDonald, who has already qualified for the NCAA East Regionals later this month, ran her career meet title total to 19, including three this outdoor season, as she captured the pole vault with a leap of 12-feet, 7 1/2-inches to lead the Blue Hens.

Marshall increased her career meet title total to 28, including 18 outdoors, as she won the hammer throw with a career best toss of 165-0 that also marked the third best throw in school history.

Seamon, a freshman, won her fourth title of the spring as she won the javelin throw with a distance of 142-4, posting the second best throw in school history and breaking her own UD freshman mark by 10 inches.

The Delaware women had seven other top five finishes as Jennifer Holly was third in the pole vault (11-11 3/4), Julia Somers broke her own school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:13.80) with a fourth place finish, Kristi Cox was fourth in the 400 meters (58.08) and fifth in the 200 meters (25.80), Megan Wiseman was fourth in the long jump (17-2 1/4), Minna Latortue was fifth in the triple jump (34-1 1/2), and Laura Chirico was fifth in the pole vault (10-11 3/4).

The Blue Hen men posted eight top five finishes in addition to Whitesel. Chase Renoll was second in the shot put with a career best throw of 51-5 1/2, and also placed sixth in the discus (123-11), Jim Schwendtner was second in the hammer (163-2), Shane Ordway was third in the pole vault (14-11), Ryan Braunagel was fourth in the discus (154-9), Vinny Fronczkowski was fourth in the 400 meters (49.57), Ross Shober was fifth in the long jump (20-10 1/2), and Steven Theroux was fifth in the pole vault (13-5 1/4).
