University of Delaware’s Connor Whitesel Named Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware junior weight thrower Connor Whitesel, who led the Blue Hen outdoor track and field team to a second place finish at the Rider Invitational this past Saturday, has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for the period ending April 13.

Whitesel (at right), a native of Landisville, Pa. (Hempfield High School), was one of four student-athletes honored by the CAA for their performances in last week’s track and field action.

James Madison’s Tanique Carter was named CAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, William & Mary’s Natalie Baire was selected CAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, and Virginia Commonwealth’s Antonio Norvell was named the CAA Men’s Track Athlete of the Week.

The CAA will holds it annual championship this weekend at Towson (Md.) University on Apr. 17-18. Individual champions will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA East Regionals

Whitesel, the defending CAA hammer champion, posted two top 10 finishes for the Hens at Rider Saturday as he won the hammer throw with a toss of 170-feet, 6-inches and placed eighth in the discus with a toss of 112-2.

Whitesel is one of five UD athletes to earn CAA weekly honors this week - joining CAA baseball Rookie of the Week Rich O’Donald, CAA softball Rookie and Pitcher of the Week Amanda Stacevicz, CAA men’s lacrosse Player of the Week Curtis Dickson, and CAA men’s lacrosse Rookie of the Week Grant Kaleikau.
