ANNAPOLIS, MD - The University of
Delaware men's and women's outdoor track and field teams
each opened their seasons with third place finishes at the
U.S. Naval Academy Invitational Saturday
afternoon.
Ohio University captured the women's
title with 153 points to outdistance Navy (128) and Delaware
(121) while the Navy men won the team title with 186 points
to get past Ohio (115) and Delaware (66). Delaware had two
first place finishes and six second place finishes on the
women's side while the UD men had three second place
finishes.
Senior Aimee Alexander
(Carmel/Stormville, NY) won the women's 800 meters with a
time of 2:21.65) and placed second in the 1,500 meters in
4:41.64) while Diethra Seymour (A.I.
duPont/Wilmington, DE) won the women's weight throw with a
toss of 151-2.
Placing second for the UD women were
Christine Kowalchuk (Phillipsburg, NJ HS) in the
javelin (123-0), Jennie Chiller (Sharon, MA HS) in
the weight throw (140-5), Monica Marchetta (Milton,
MA HS) in the 10,000 meters (38:45.0), Krista Kugler
(A.I. duPont/Hockessin, DE) in the 3,000 meter
steeplechase (12:21.44), and Erin Gemmill (Penn
Manor/Lancaster, PA) in the 800 meters (2:22.02). Kerry
Van Riper (Bethlehem Central/Belmar, NY) had two third
place finishes in the shot put (33-3 ¾) and the weight
throw (131-10).
For the UD men, Pat Boettcher
(William Penn/New Castle, DE) was second in the 1,500
meters (4:03.17), Mike Goodhart (Warwick/Lititz, PA)
was second in the hammer (166-6), Brandon Nesbitt
(Ewing/Trenton, NJ) was second in the 400m hurdles (56.65),
and Pat Riley (St. Mark's/Newark, DE) was third in
the 1,500 meters (4:04.45).
