DATE: May 28, 2005

NEW YORK, NY -- University of Delaware senior Casey Bennett placed 20th in the women's pole vault and senior Mike Yost (right) was 26th in the men's discus at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Regional Friday afternoon at Manhattan College's Icahn Stadium.

The meet was the final action of the 2005 season for both the Blue Hen men and women and capped an outstanding career for both Bennett and Yost.

Bennett (Shelton/Shelton, CT), who qualified for the regional after winning the Colonial Athletic Association title back in April, failed on three attempts at the minimum height of 3.66 meters and was eliminated from the competition. She was among seven athlete who failed to reach the minimum height and tied for 20th. Georgia's Kierney Hiteshew captured the title.

Yost (Lake Forest/Felton, DE), the CAA discus champion, placed 26th out of 27 competitors with a toss of 145-feet, 8-inches in the discus. The event was won by Florida State sophomore Garrett Johnson who posted a distance of 199-feet, 4-inches. North Carolina's Vikas Gowda was second with a toss of 198-1.

Bennett, who captured 18 career indoor and outdoor pole vault titles during her career and set the school indoor and outdoor record, earned All-East honors earlier this season by placing seventh at the ECAC championships. She placed ninth in the pole vault at last year's NCAA regionals.

Yost won eight outdoor meet titles this spring in the hammer and discus and was 15th in the hammer and 19th in the discus at the IC4A championships two weeks ago at Princeton.
