Delaware 4 x 400 Meter Relay Team Places Second in Heat at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed in six events at the 111th annual Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field Thursday and Friday.

The Delaware women competed in the 4 x 100 meter relay, the 4 x 200 meter relay, and the pole vault on Thursday. The Delaware men took part in the 4 x 100 meter relay, 4 x 200 meter relay, and 4 x 400 meter relay on Friday.

For the Delaware men, the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Charlie Williams, Chris Dixon, Phil Smiley, and Dave Sherman placed second overall in the Frank Wetzler/Pennsylvania Relay with a time of season-best time of 3:18.60. Saint Joseph's won the race with a time of 3:15.63.

Also for the UD men, the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Pat Henry, Jason Bradley, Scott Vari, and Charlie Williams ran to a time of 43.07 to place sixth in its heat. Florida International won the heat in a time of 40.65.

Delaware's 4 x 200 meter relay team of Henry, Chris Dixon, Bradley, and Williams ran to a time of 1:29.00 to place eighth.

The UD women's 4 x 100 meter relay team of Domonique Carter, Kristen Frustillo, Rayna Horsey, and Asha Quant placed seventh in its heat with a time of 49.35. Tennessee captured the heat with a time of 44.68. In the 4 x 200 meter relay, the Blue Hen team of Carter, Frustillo, Horsey, and Quant posted the third fastest time in school history with a clocking of 1:45.72 to place eight in the heat. Louisiana State won the race with a time of 1:34.94.

Individually for the Delaware women, senior Casey Bennett placed eighth overall in the pole vault with a leap of 11-feet, 11 3/4 inches. Pennsylvania's Sam Crook captured first place with a leap of 12-feet, 10-inches. Bennett has already qualified for the NCAA Regionals next month after capturing the Colonial Athletic Association title last week at George Mason.

Both Delaware teams will continue action Saturday at the Lion's Invitational hosted by the College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ.
