Yost Takes Discus, Hammer as Blue Hen
Outdoor Track Team Wins Delaware

-- Mike Yost and Brittany Wright each won
two events as the Blue Hen men's and
women's outdoor track and field teams each
won the Delaware Invitational Saturday
afternoon.
The
Delaware women finished with 289 points,
ahead of Towson with 269 and Coppin State
with 32. The Blue Hen men totaled 288.5,
followed by Delaware State with 134.5 and
Coppin State with 17. Wheaton won the
six-team Division II/III men's competition
with 109 points, while Millersville took
the Division II/III women's competition
with 168 points.
Yost won
the discus with a throw of 146'5" and the
hammer with a throw of 180'2" to lead the
Blue Hen men. Mike Hazeltine took the 1500
meter run in 4:28.04, while P.J. Meany
captured the 3000 meter run in 8:44.70.
Mike Ward won the 5000 meter run in
16:13.60, Jay Bradley took the 110 meter
hurdles in 14.51, and Brad Dodson won the
3000 meter steeplechase in
9:39.88.
Matt Guida
was the other individual event winner for
Delaware as he took the pole vault with a
mark of 13'7", while the Blue Hen 4x400
meter relay team won its event in
3:30.60.
Scott Vari
finished second in the 200 meter dash in
22.10, Dodson was second in the 800 meter
run in 1:59.00, and Clark Ridge placed
second in the 1500 meter run in 4:29.85.
Kyle Schmid came in second in the 3000
meter run in 8:58.10, Bradley finished
second in the 400 meter hurdles in 58.90,
Tyler Mayforth placed second in the 3000
meter steeplechase in 10:11.13, and Will
Baum was second with a high jump of
5'10".
Matt
Arbaugh finished second in the pole vault
with a mark of 13'5.25", Yost was second
in the shot put with a throw of 44'4.75",
Kyle Casella came in second in the hammer
with a throw of 152'9", and Adam Cianfichi
placed second in the javelin with a throw
of 168'7".
Wright won
the 100 meter dash in 12.10 and the 200
meter dash in a school record time of 24.2
(hand time) to pace the Delaware women.
Her time in the 200 meters broke the
previous mark of 24.81 by Dionne Jones in
1990.
Mary
Martini took the 5000 meter run in
19:52.60, Kate Klim captured the 3000
meter steeplechase in 11:31.33, and Rachel
Young won the shot put with a school
record throw of 44'2.50". Young broke the
record of 43-11 by Stacey Price in 1991.
Lisa Weeks
won the discus with a throw of 128'8",
while Lauren Palmer was the other
inidividual event winner for the Blue Hens
as she captured the hammer with a throw of
124'1". The Delaware 4x100 meter relay
team won its race in 48.51, while the UD
4x400 meter relay team took its event in
4:02.20.
Kristen
Frustillo finished second in the 100 meter
dash in 12.20, Rayna Horsey was second in
the 200 meter dash in 25.00, and Megan
Oberst placed second in the 400 meter dash
in 1:02.00. Toni Riggi was second in the
800 meter run in 2:25.50, Leslie Wason
finished second in the 5000 meter run in
20:07.00, and Colleen Reid came in second
in the 3000 meter steeplechase in
12:32.26. Casey Bennett placed second in
the pole vault with a mark of 10'11.75",
while Weeks was second in the shot put
with a throw of 37'11.25" and Julie
Hischmann was second in the javelin with a
throw of 120'5".
Both
Delaware teams return to action on May
12-15 when they compete in the IC4A
Championships at Princeton University.
