Continuing with the University of Delaware track and field coaching staff and working with the UD men's and women's pole vaulters for his ninth season in 2009-10 is Chris Watson.
During his tenure with the Blue Hens, Watson has enjoyed outstanding success with the UD pole vaulters. Jon DiNozzi captured the 2003 Colonial Athletic Association outdoor pole vault title and advanced to the NCAA Regionals while Casey Bennett won the 2005 CAA women's outdoor pole vault title and competed at the NCAA Regionals in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Most recently, Kelli McDonald won 19 career meet titles in the pole vault, placed third in the conference outdoors in both 2008 and 2009, and advanced to the NCAA East Regionals in 2009 where she placed seventh, just missing a spot in the NCAA Championships. DiNozzi, Bennett, and McDonald all hold their respective school records.
A native of Downingtown, Pa., Watson placed second in the Pennsylvania state high school meet as a senior at Downingtown High School (15-1) and moved on to Odessa (Tex.) Junior College where he earned JUCO All-American honors at the 1994 national meet. He also served as an assistant coach at Dover (Del.) High School.
A member of the United States Air Force since 1994, he currently serves as an aircraft mechanic at Dover (Del.) Air Force Base. He resides in Dover.
