HEMPSTEAD, NY -- Senior forward
Dennis O'Connell scored twice as Delaware defeated
Hofstra, 4-1, Friday in men's soccer action.
The Trumbull, CT native broke a scoreless
tie at 33:32 with a goal on a breakaway for his first score
of the season to give Delaware a lead it would never
relinquish.
Rob MacLeod followed with a goal
at 38:14 to give Delaware a 2-0 lead. The senior from
Livingston, NJ scored his third goal of the season when he
knocked a loose ball in front of the net past Hofstra
goalkeeper Russell McCormack.
The Blue Hens (3-7-1, 1-1-0) extended the
lead to 3-0 just 2:29 into the second half on Seth
Duhl's first goal of the season.
Hofstra (6-6-0, 1-2-0) got on the board
with 6:07 remaining on Hughroy Daley's unassisted
goal.
However, O'Connell scored again with just
14 seconds remaining on a headball off of a Dan Keane
pass.
Nick Konawalik had six saves in
net for Delaware. McCormack had three saves for Hofstra.
Hofstra had a 9-8 advantage in shots.
The Blue Hens will host Drexel Sunday at
1 p.m.
