Towson 5, Delaware 3
TOWSON, MD -- 1998 America East
Rookie of the Year Alfonso DeMares had a goal and three
assists as Towson University won its eighth straight America
East regular season game, defeating Delaware, 5-3, in men's
soccer action Saturday.
DeMares four-point overshadowed a pair of
two-goal efforts by Delaware's Dan Keane and Towson's
Adam Lowe.
Lowe opened the scoring at 6:09 with his
first of two goals. Todd Everett countered for
Delaware, however, just 4:24 later to tie the game with his
first goal of the season.
Lowe scored his second of the afternoon
at 15:34 on a give-and-go with DeMares to give the Tigers a
2-1 lead. DeMares, then scored his goal at 40:29 to give
Towson a 3-1 lead at halftime.
However, Delaware came storming back
thanks to Keane. The Newark, DE native's two goals came 91
seconds apart at 49:32 and 51:03 for his second and third
goals of the season and tied the game, 3-3.
The tie would not last long, though, as
Towson's Randy Tolson scored at 57:25 to give the Tigers the
lead once again, 4-3.
Todd Lauber iced the win at 87:21 when he
scored off of DeMares' third assist of the day.
It was the conference opener for both
Towson (5-1-3, 1-0 America East) and Delaware (2-6-1,
0-1)
Delaware will travel to Navy Tuesday
night for a 7 p.m. contest.
