UMBC
Sept. 8, 1999
UMBC 4, Delaware 0
BALTIMORE, MD -- The Delaware
men's soccer team dropped its fourth straight to start the
season Wednesday with a 2-0 loss at UMBC.
UMBC, now 3-0 for the first time since
1993, took a 1-0 lead on a goal by junior midfielder Louie
Karko. Karko took a give-and-go pass from Ty Engram just
inside midfield and raced down the left wing, beating
Delaware keeper Nick Konawalik 10:50 into the
game.
That 1-0 lead would hold until the
waining moments of the game, when Engram scored on a
semi-breakaway with six seconds remaining.
The Retrievers, which outshot Delaware,
20-7, have not allowed a goal in their last 266 minutes of
action. Konawalik recorded seven saves in net for Delaware.
Tom Wunk recorded three saves for UMBC in recording his
first solo shutout of the season.
The Blue Hens return to action next
Tuesday when they travel to Lafayette for a 4 p.m.
kickoff.
