goal

WEST HARTFORD, CT -- A pair of
Blue Hen freshmen teamed up for their first collegiate
points but it wasn't enough as the University of Delaware
men's soccer team (1-8, 0-1 America East) dropped its
conference opener to Hartford, 4-1, Friday night.
With just over 23 minutes remaining in
the second half, freshman Pat Werner (Virginia Beach,
VA/Cox) took a pass from Stephen Mangat, a freshman
from St. Mark's, and fired the ball just inside the left
post for his first career goal. The assist was also the
first point for Mangat.
Unfortunately, the goal only cut the
Hartford lead to 3-1. Asaf Lubezky scored a goal and added
an assist as the Hawks (5-4-1, 1-0) took a 3-0 lead into
halftime. Mike Santangelo scored with 1:16 left in
regulation to end the scoring.
Delaware goalkeeper Nick Konawalik
made four saves for the Hens, who recorded a season-high 15
shots.
Delaware will look to even its conference
record Sunday when the Hens travel to Vermont to take on the
Catamounts at 1 p.m.
