WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - Mike Hull
came off the bench to score the game-winning goal just three
minutes and 40 seconds into overtime as host Monmouth posted
a 2-1 victory over the University of Delaware Tuesday
afternoon at West Lawn Field.
The Blue Hens (1-6) lost their second
straight game while Monmouth improved to 3-1-1. The game,
which was televised on tape delay by the CN8 Network, was
delayed for 25 minutes with 33 minutes left in regulation
due to heavy rain and lightning.
The Hawks got on the board just six
minutes and 52 second into the contest when Anthony
Viscariello took a feed from Damon Albano off a corner kick
and scored past Delaware goalkeeper Nick Konawalik
(Pleasant Valley/Brodheadsville, PA). Konawalik had five
saves on the day.
Delaware tied the score at 1-1 with 26:58
left in the second half when Nick Kreider (Cedar
Crest/Cornwall, PA) scored his second career goal and first
of the season off an assist from Mat Dunbar
(McKean/Hockessin, DE). The score came just seven
minutes after the rain delay. The teams did not score again
in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Monmouth won the game in the fourth
minute of overtime when Hull blasted a shot over a diving
Konawalik. Monmouth goalkeeper Tim Fauth posted seven saves
in the win. Delaware outshot Monmouth 14-12.
Delaware will travel back to New Jersey
Saturday to take on Rider in Lawrenceville.
The game will be televised Saturay at
11:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. and Sunday at 8:30 p.m. on CN8
channel 2 in New Castle County.
