NEWARK, DE -- Giuliano Celenza
took a long pass from P.J. Wakefield and beat Delaware
goalkeeper Nick Konawalik from about 20 yards out to
give the UMBC men's soccer team a 2-1 double overtime win
over the University of Delaware Wednesday at Delaware
Field.
Delaware (0-2) got on the board first
with nine minutes left in the first half. Brian Shepanski
crossed the ball from the left corner. After a scrum in
front, Seth Duhl managed to get a shot on goal. Mike
Honeysett (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) scored
off the rebound from 10 yards out on the left
side.
UMBC (3-0) tied the game with just over
17 minutes remaining in the game when Andy Wells scored on a
penalty kick.
Konawalik recorded seven saves in the
defeat. Delaware returns to action Friday as the Blue Hens
travel to Williamsburg, VA for the William & Mary
Tournament. Delaware will play the host Tribe Friday at 7
p.m. and Old Dominion Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
