DURHAM, NH -- Adam Purcell scored
twice in the first 25:16 to lead an early offensive surge as
New Hampshire defeated Delaware, 3-1, in men's soccer action
Saturday afternoon.
Purcell scored unassisted at 10:07 and on
a header off a Doug Lawyer pass just over 15 minutes later
to give the home team a 2-0 lead.
New Hampshire (6-8-0, 3-4-0) also got a
tally from Josh Horald on a breakaway at 38:31 to give the
Wildcats a 3-0 halftime lead.
Delaware (3-13-0, 1-6-0) got one back
with just under 20 minutes remaining when Jeff
Martell scored off a Richie Schrider feed, but it
wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit.
Delaware held a 14-8 advantage in shots,
but the Wildcats made the most of their chances. Delaware
also had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Blue Hens will host Boston University
next Friday at 3 p.m.
