BURLINGTON, VT -- Tim Willard
scoerd with 14 seconds remaining in regulation to give the
University of Vermont men's soccer team a 2-1 win over the
University of Delaware Sunday afternoon in
Burlington.
Kevin Smyth and Jason Allen assisted on
the game-winner, which came off of Delaware backup
goalkeeper Joe Iudica. Iudica replaced starter
Nick Konawalik, who left the match after just 15
minutes when he collided in mid-air with a Vermont player.
Konawalik was taken to Fletcher-Allen Hospital for
precautionary reasons.
After a scoreless first half, Vermont
(6-5, 2-0) struck first with 30 minutes remaining on a goal
by David Said.
Delaware (1-9, 0-2) answered just six
minutes later when Mike Honeysett (Mechanicsburg,
PA/Cumberland Valley) headed home a cross from Nick
Kreider. The goal was Honeysett's second of the season
and the fourth of his career. The assist was Kreider's first
of his career.
Iudica made six saves in his second
appearance of the season.
The Blue Hens return to action Oct. 7
when they host Towson at Delaware Field at 3 p.m. That match
will begin a four-match home stand for Delaware.
