October 12, 2001 Blue Hens take down conference leader
NEWARK, DE--The University of Delaware defeated conference leading University at Albany, 2-0, in men's soccer at the Mini-Stadium Friday night. The loss was Albany's (6-4, 3-1) first in America East play. The Blue Hens took the lead late in the first half when Pat Werner hit the top right corner of the net with a header. The game continued to get more physical as the score remained, 1-0, late into the second half. With nine minutes left to play, junior Mike Honeysett chipped a shot past current America East Player of the Week Trevor Serraro, to pad the Delaware's (5-7, 2-2) lead. Delaware's Brian Shepanski recorded assists on both UD scores. Freshman goalie Kyle Haynes stopped eights shots, including back-to-back diving stops within the final five minutes of play to preserve his second shutout of the season.
