Pride's Playoff
Hopes Rise with Win
HEMPSTEAD, NY -- Four different Hofstra
players found the back of the net as the Pride moved closer
to an America East Tournament bid with a 4-1 win over
Delaware in America East men's soccer action Friday
afternoon.
With the win, Hofstra moved to 4-2-0 in
conference action. The Pride opened the day in a tie for
fifth place in America East, with New Hampshire and Delaware
two points behind. The win gives Hofstra a five-point lead
over Delaware in the standings with each team having three
conference games remaining. New Hampshire, which tied
Vermont, 1-1, Friday afternoon, trails Hofstra by four
points. The top six teams advance to the America East
Tournament.
Delaware's lone goal came off the foot of
redshirt freshman Justin Reid. Reid's first collegiate tally
came with 12:26 left in regulation from 12 yards
out.
Alex Deminaczuk opened the scoring midway
through the first half. Deminaczuk scored off a flick into
the right corner from 15 yards out to give the Pride a 1-0
lead.
Shawn Higgins scored off a rebound with
3:16 remaining in the first half to give the Pride a 2-0
advantage.
Freshman Stephen Kent gave Hofstra a 3-0
lead when he scored just 5:13 into the second half off a
cross from Patrick Geraghty. Geraghty has also assisted on
Deminaczuk's goal.
Richard Bigus scored Hofstra's fourth
goal unassisted when he stole a clearing attempt and broke
in from the left side.
Delaware will face Drexel in Philadelphia
Sunday at 1 p.m.
