Hens loss Ends Playoff Hopes

BOSTON, MA-- The University of Delaware men's soccer team lost to Northeastern, 1-0, Sunday afternoon. The loss eliminated the Blue Hens from America East Tournament contention.

Northeastern's Chris Beston headed in a corner kick in the 25th minute of the first half for the only score of the contest. Allan Lewis stopped five UD shots in goal and Ryan McKibbin made a defensive save in the Huskies' shutout.

The goaltending of Kyle Haynes kept the game close for the Blue Hens, recording five saves.

Northeastern (11-7, 7-4) will continue on to play in the America East Tournament, entering as the fourth seed and hosting No. 5 Hofstra on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

A victory would have put Delaware in the America East Tournament for the first time in since 1996. Delaware finishes its season 7-11-1 overall, 4-6-1 in conference play. The seven wins were its most since 1998.
