Late comeback gives Blue Hens tie against Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, NY-- Mike Honeysett scored two goals within the final 30 minutes of regulation as the University of Delaware men's soccer team tied with Stony Brook University, 2-2, in America East play Sunday afternoon. It was the first meeting in the history of the programs.

After a scoreless first half, the Seawolves scored two goals midway through the second half to take a 2-0 lead. The Hens dominated the rest of the way.

Honeysett scored his first goal of the day three minutes after Stony Brook took the two-goal advantage, with aid of a Dan Keane assist.

A Seawolf foul awarded the Blue Hens with a free kick with 4:09 remaining in regulation. Honeysett capitalized on the opportunity, drilling the shot into the top of the net.

Delaware out-shot Stony Brook 8-4 in the overtime periods, but were unable to put one in goal.

Dan Ferrin stopped seven shots in goal for Stony Brook (4-4-1, 1-3-1).

Delaware returns to action in Hempstead, New York at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon, as it takes on Hofstra in America East play.
