Late comeback gives Blue Hens
tie against Stony Brook
STONY BROOK, NY-- Mike
Honeysett scored two goals within the final 30 minutes
of regulation as the University of Delaware men's soccer
team tied with Stony Brook University, 2-2, in America East
play Sunday afternoon. It was the first meeting in the
history of the programs.
After a scoreless first half, the
Seawolves scored two goals midway through the second half to
take a 2-0 lead. The Hens dominated the rest of the way.
Honeysett scored his first goal of the
day three minutes after Stony Brook took the two-goal
advantage, with aid of a Dan Keane assist.
A Seawolf foul awarded the Blue Hens with
a free kick with 4:09 remaining in regulation. Honeysett
capitalized on the opportunity, drilling the shot into the
top of the net.
Delaware out-shot Stony Brook 8-4 in the
overtime periods, but were unable to put one in
goal.
Dan Ferrin stopped seven shots in goal
for Stony Brook (4-4-1, 1-3-1).
Delaware returns to action in Hempstead,
New York at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon, as it takes on Hofstra
in America East play.
