NEWARK, DE -- Senior forward Mike
Honeysett scored the game-winning goal midway through
the second half to lead the University of Delaware men's
soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Navy Tuesday evening at
Delaware Mini-Stadium.
The match was tied 1-1, when Honeysett
collected a pass from freshman midfielder Ed Cwiek,
and he outraced the defense, beating Navy goalkeeper Matt
Copar for the game's deciding goal at 70:04.
Cwiek opened the scoring in the ninth
minute when he gathered a one-touch pass from freshman
Ryan Edwards, and he put his shot into the lower
left-corner of the net for a 1-0 Delaware lead. The goal
marked the first time the Blue Hens have scored in the first
half this season.
Matt Sanchez scored for Navy at 59:52 to
tie the game 1-1.
The Blue Hens had a chance to go ahead
2-0 in the 13th minute, when Honeysett was dragged down
inside the box, but his penalty kick was turned away by Navy
goalkeeper Frank Difilippo.
Delaware sophomore goalkeeper Kyle
Haynes made a season high eight saves in the victory.
Difilippo had five saves in the first half for Navy (4-7-1)
before being replaced by Copar at halftime. Copar stopped
one shot.
The Blue Hens (2-5-1) return to action
this Sunday when they play host to Iona at Delaware
Mini-Stadium. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
