Delaware falls 2-0
to visiting Seahawks in CAA Men's
Soccer
NEWARK, DE - Daniel Butner and Adam
Stauffer each scored once to lead UNC Wilmington to a 2-0
victory over Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association
men's soccer match Friday night at Delaware
Mini-Stadium.
The win gives the Seahawks their first
CAA conference win of the season, as they improve to 8-9
overall and 1-7 in the CAA, while Delaware falls to 2-11-4
overall and 0-6-2 in conference action.
Butner opened the scoring in the 16th
minute when he flipped a shot over onrushing Blue Hen
goalkeeper Kyle Haynes from 12-yards out. Patrick
Althoff picked up an assist when he one-touched a nifty pass
to Butner.
The score would remain 1-0 in favor of
the Seahawks until Stauffer drove home a rebound from Sam
Leger's initial shot that deflected off the left goal-post
in the 49th minute.
Haynes made three saves in a losing
effort for the Blue Hens. Bill Mills had one save to pick up
his third shutout of the season for UNC
Wilmington.
The Seahawks outshot the Blue Hens 11-6,
while Delaware held an 8-3 advantage in corner
kicks.
Delaware wraps up the 2002 season with a
1 p.m. home date with CAA rival Virginia Commonwealth on
Sunday at Delaware Mini-Stadium.
