Blue Hens Fall
Behind Early and Fail to Catch up Despite Haney's Two
Goals
NEWARK DE -- Lehigh University
scored three goals in the first half and held on for a 5-2
win over the University of Delaware men's soccer team on
Wednesday evening at Delaware Mini-Stadium.
Lehigh scored the first three goals of
the game with in the first fifteen minutes of the
game.
Delaware responded in the second half as
freshman Matt Haney (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth's)
registered his first career goal to pull the Blue Hens
to a two goal deficit, 3-1, at 56:22.
Lehigh retaliated twenty-one seconds
later when Maciek Serafin notched his second goal of the
evening off an assist from Steve Fisher.
Haney would score again at 59:27,
becoming the first Delaware player to score two goals in a
game since Mike Honeysett scored a pair on October 28, 2001
in a 3-1 win over New Hampshire.
Lehigh iced the game when Steve Fisher
scored at 71:11 to bring the score to 5-2.
Fisher and Serafin led the Mountain Hawks
with two goals a piece while Peter Classi notched one goal
and two assists.
The Mountain Hawks outshot the Blue Hens
13-9 while tallying a 24 fouls to the Blue Hens'
nine.
Delaware returns to action on Saturday,
September 20 when it travels to Baltimore to take on UMBC at
1 p.m.
