Arpan's Second Half
Goal Leaves Game Knotted at 1-1 after Two
Overtimes
CATONSVILLE, MD -- Despite a late
second half goal, the University of Delaware men's soccer
team participated in its second double overtime game of the
season, ending with a 1-1 with host UMBC Saturday
afternoon.
Both teams were scoreless for the first
42 minutes of the match until Derek McElligott tabbed the
first goal of the game, sending the Retrievers up,
1-0.
Sophomore Justin Arpan (Downington,
PA/Downington) scored his second goal of the season off
an assist from junior Adam Flanigan (Newark, DE/St.
Mark's) at 71:51 to tie the game at 1-1 and send it to
overtime.
The score remained tied, 1-1, throughout
both 10-minute periods of extra play.
In goal, junior co-captain Kyle Haynes
(St. Michael's, MD/St. Michael's) collected six saves in
110 minutes of action for the Blue Hens.
UMBC (4-0-2) outshot the Blue Hens 15-4
while tallying six corner kicks to the Blue Hens'
two.
Delaware (2-3-2) returns to action on
Wednesday, September 24 when it travels to Washington, DC to
take on Howard University at 7 p.m.
