Blue Hens Fall in
Season Opener at Radford
Tournament
RADFORD, VA -- Virginia Tech
scored both of its goals two minutes apart midway through
the second half as the University of Delaware men's soccer
team fell 2-0 in its season opener Friday in the first round
of the Highlander Classic at Radford University's Dedmon
Center.
The game, which was delayed twice due to
lightning and thunderstorms, was the first meeting ever
between the two schools in men's soccer. Host Radford
defeated Mercer 1-0 on penalty shots in the second game of
the tournament Friday night.
Bailey Allman scored an unassisted goal
with 26:07 left to play and Peer Rogge tallied off a feed
from Ben Nason just 98 seconds later to send the Hokies
(1-0) to the victory over the Blue Hens (0-1).
Virginia Tech outshot the Hens by a 16-4
margin, including a 14-1 advantage in the second half.
Delaware goalkeeper Kyle Haynes posted one save in
the nets while Virginia Tech's Chase Harrison posted the
shutout win with two saves.
Delaware got one shot on goal each from
Anthony Pezza, Stephen Mangat, Nathan Danforth, and
Anthony Molinaro.
Delaware will continue play in the
tournament Sunday when the Hens take on host Radford at 2:30
p.m.
