Blue Hens Fall in Season Opener at Radford Tournament

RADFORD, VA -- Virginia Tech scored both of its goals two minutes apart midway through the second half as the University of Delaware men's soccer team fell 2-0 in its season opener Friday in the first round of the Highlander Classic at Radford University's Dedmon Center.

The game, which was delayed twice due to lightning and thunderstorms, was the first meeting ever between the two schools in men's soccer. Host Radford defeated Mercer 1-0 on penalty shots in the second game of the tournament Friday night.

Bailey Allman scored an unassisted goal with 26:07 left to play and Peer Rogge tallied off a feed from Ben Nason just 98 seconds later to send the Hokies (1-0) to the victory over the Blue Hens (0-1).

Virginia Tech outshot the Hens by a 16-4 margin, including a 14-1 advantage in the second half. Delaware goalkeeper Kyle Haynes posted one save in the nets while Virginia Tech's Chase Harrison posted the shutout win with two saves.

Delaware got one shot on goal each from Anthony Pezza, Stephen Mangat, Nathan Danforth, and Anthony Molinaro.

Delaware will continue play in the tournament Sunday when the Hens take on host Radford at 2:30 p.m.
