Falls 2-1 at Georgetown in Season
Opener
WASHINGTON,
D.C. (September 1, 2004) -- Two second
half goals were the difference as
Georgetown University defeated the
University of Delaware 2-1 in men's soccer
action on Wednesday afternoon in
Washington, DC
The
game was the season opener for both
teams.
The
Blue Hens took the lead just 11:07 into
the game, as senior Richard Zeller
(Narberth, PA/ Haverford) connected off a
pass from Adam Flanigan (Newark, DE/ St.
Mark's). The goal was the first of
Zeller's career and put Delaware up
1-0.
Georgetown
which outshot Delaware, 14-6, knotted the
game at 1-1 just 9:23 into the second half
as Dan Gargan scored off a pass from Ricky
Schramm and Danny McNally. McNally scored
his first goal of the season with just 10
minutes remaining off a pass from Mike
Glaccum.
Delaware,
senior Kyle Haynes (St. Michael's MD/ St.
Michael's) made five saves in the Blue Hen
goals while facing 14 shots. For the
Hoyas, Andrew Keszler made two saves while
allowing the one early goal.
Delaware
returns to action on Friday when the Blue
Hens take on New Mexico at 5:30pm in the
first day of the Virginia Commonwealth
Tournament in Richmond, VA.
