Tadjalli Lead Blue Hen Men's Soccer Over

HEMPSTEAD,
NY (October 22, 2004) -- University of
Delaware freshman Tau Blau (Staten Island,
NY/Susan Wagner) scored just 24 seconds
into the match and fellow newcomer Sobhan
Tadjalli (Hockessin, DE/A.I. duPont) -
right - added an insurance goal as the
Blue Hen men's soccer team held on to
defeat Hofstra, 2-1, Friday
night.
Blau
scored his first career goal when he
collected a Hofstra clear and drilled a
shot from 25 yards out into the upper left
corner of the goal in the first minute for
Delaware, which snapped a six-match
winless streak to improve to 4-9-1 overall
and 1-5 in the Colonial Athletic
Association.
Tadjalli
scored from six yards out off an assist
from freshman T.C. Young (Pittsburgh,
PA/Fox Chapel Area) to put the Blue Hens
up by two with 28:43 remaining in the
match. The goal was the 11th of the season
for Tadjalli, setting a new freshman
record for goals in a season. Tadjalli,
who has now scored 11 of Delaware's 23
goals this year, had been tied with John
McCloskey, who scored 10 goals during the
1975 season.
The Pride
got on the board with 2:13 remaining when
Chris Cox headed home a corner kick by Tim
Kenney but could not get the equalizer,
falling to 5-8-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the
league.
Delaware
senior goalkeeper Kyle Haynes (St.
Michael's, MD/St. Michael's) made a
season-high 13 saves for the Blue Hens,
who were out-shot by Hofstra, 21-14. The
Pride also held a 10-2 advantage in corner
kicks but fell to Delaware for the first
time since the 1999 season.
Haynes has
now made 327 career saves, fourth all-time
at Delaware and just 16 short of Joaquin
Hurtado, who sits in third place with 343
career saves.
The Blue
Hens travel to Drexel Sunday for a 1 p.m.
match with the Dragons.
