Battles to 1-1 Tie at
Lehigh
BETHLEHEM,
PA (Oct. 12, 2004) -- A goal by sophomore
Sal Tadjalli (Hockessin, DE/ C.W. Baker-at
right) with just 1:25 remaining in
regulation evened the score as the
University of Delaware men's soccer team
tied Lehigh, 1-1, on Tuesday evening. The
tie snaps a three-game losing streak for
the Blue Hens (3-7-1).
Lehigh(7-3-2)
got on the board first as the Mountain
Hawks' Jim Stevens took a Kyle Hartman
pass and ripped it home just 5:50 into the
game. Both teams were able to produce nine
shots in the first half, while the Blue
Hens held a 3-0 advantage on corner
kicks.
The second
half continued to be a battle as both
teams fought for control of the match.
Delaware finally got even as Tadjalli took
a lead pass from fellow sophomore Anthony
Pezza (Jackson, NJ/ St. Benedict's) and
banged it home for his second goal of the
year.
The shots
were even at four for both overtime
periods as neither team was able to
capitalize on its chances.
Senior
Kyle Haynes (St. Michael's, MD/ St.
Michael's) logged all 110 minutes in goal
for the Blue Hens making 11 saves. Haynes
is now just 49 minutes shy of breaking
Joaquin Hurtado's school record of 6,169
minutes played by a goalkeeper in their
career set from 1995-98. Sam Bishop and
Charlie Sales split time in goal for
Lehigh making six saves
combined.
The Blue
Hens return to action on Friday evening
when they host William & Mary, at
Delaware Mini-Stadium at 7 p.m.
