Delaware
Falls to LaSalle 3-2 in
2OT
RICHMOND,
VA (September 5, 2004)-- The University of
Delaware men's soccer team fell 3-2 to
LaSalle in two overtime periods Sunday
afternoon on the second day of the
Virginia Commonwealth Tournament.
The Blue
Hens (0-3) and Explorers battled to a
scoreless first half, as the two teams
were evenly matched on shots at 6-6.
Delaware got on the board first in the
second half, as freshman Sobhan Tadjalli
(Hockessin, DE/ A.I. DuPont) scored his
second goal in as many days to give
Delaware an early lead.
Tadjalli's
goal came off a pass from senior Adam
Flanigan (Newark, DE/ St. Mark's).
Flanigan struck for his own goal just 20
minutes later to give the Blue Hens the
2-0 advantage.
LaSalle
answered with a goal less than a minute
later from Josh France, assisted by Scott
Golden. The Explorers were not done yet as
Ryan Dougherty scored an unassisted goal
with four minutes remaining in the game.
The first
overtime saw the Blue Hens have their
chances as Delaware outshot LaSalle 3-1.
The second overtime was all LaSalle though
as Ryan Moseley recorded the only shot of
the period and made it count. Kevin
Coleman assisted on Moseley's game
winner.
Delaware's
Kyle Haynes (St. Michael's,MD/St.
Michael's) made four saves in goal while
the Explorers' Stash Graham was forced to
make three. Both teams recorded 16 shots
on goal for the game.
Tadjalli
and Flanigan were both named to the
all-tournament team.
Delaware
will return to action on Wednesday,
September 8. The Blue Hens will play host
at Central Connecticut State at 7
p.m.
