Delaware Falls to William & Mary, 1-0

NEWARK, DE (October 15, 2004) -- William & Mary's Clayton Voss scored an unassisted goal at the 31:50 mark and William & Mary held on for the 1-0 win over the University of Delaware men's soccer team on a rainy Friday night at Delaware Mini-Stadium.

The loss leaves the Blue Hens (3-8-1, 0-4 Colonial Athletic Association) still searching for their first conference win.

The Blue Hens had several chances during the match, but Justin Arpan (Downingtown, PA/ Downingtown) and Sobhan Tadjalli (Hockessin, DE/ A.I. duPont) each had shots go just wide of the net.

Voss took the ball in alone and beat goalie Kyle Haynes (St. Michael's, MD/ St. Michael's-at right) to give the Tribe the early lead. Delaware outshot William & Mary in the first half, 6-3, but trailed by a goal at the break.

The second half was fairly even as both teams had their chances, but neither was able to capitalize.

Haynes, who made two saves in goal, now holds the school record for most minutes played in a career. Haynes, who has now played 6,209 career minutes with six matches remaining this season, broke Joaquin Hurtado's previous mark of 6,169 minutes played.

Kris Rake made three saves in net for the Tribe. Delaware outshot William & Mary, 7-6, and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Blue Hens host Old Dominion in another CAA contest Saturday night at 7 p.m.
