Falls to West Virginia, 5-0 in Season

MORGANTOWN,
WV (November 2, 2004) -- West Virginia's
Jarrod Evans scored a hat trick and that
propelled the Mountaineers to a 5-0 win
over the University of Delaware men's
soccer team on Tuesday night in
non-conference action.
The loss
was the fourth straight for the Blue Hens
(4-13-1) and concludes their 2004
campaign.
Evans
wasted little time in getting West
Virginia (11-6-1) on the scoreboard as he
took a Reed Cooper pass and scored just 15
seconds into the game. That was all the
scoring the first half would see although
Delaware did outshoot the Mountaineers
10-8 in the opening stanza.
Aaron
Pitchkolan headed a ball into the net off
a Dan Stratford corner kick 17 minutes
into the second half to give the
Mountaineers a 2-0 lead. West Virginia's
next three goals would all come within a
span of 10 minutes as Geoff Cameron scored
off a corner kick before Evans tacked on
two more for his hat trick. Evans second
goal came off a Mike Anoia pass and his
third goal came off a rebound.
Freshman
T.C. Young (Pittsburgh, PA/ Central
Catholic) registered five shots for the
Blue Hens.
Senior
Kyle Haynes (St. Michael's, MD/ St.
Michael's- at right) playing in his final
game for the Blue Hens made five saves on
the night. Haynes finishes his career with
351 saves good enough for third place on
the Delaware career saves list, he also
will leave Delaware holding the record for
most minutes played by a goalie in his
career.
West
Virginia had three players see time in net
with Nick Noble making four saves in goal
while Adam Shutler and Tom Orbacz were not
forced to make a save. The two teams ended
the game with 16 shots apiece.
Delaware
concludes its season with a mark of
4-13-1, 1-8 CAA . The Blue Hens will lose
their three seniors in Haynes, Adam
Flanigan (Newark, DE/ St. Mark's), and
Richard Zeller (Narberth, PA/ Haverford)
but return three of their top five scorers
for next year.
