NEW BRITAIN, CT-- Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Thames made five saves for a
shutout in helping the University of Delaware men’s soccer team to a 0-0 tie
against Central Connecticut on Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore T.C. Young led the Hens with six shots, but was unable to solve
Central Connecticut goalie John Ciano. Ciano made nine saves for the Blue
Devils to post the shutout.
Delaware carried the play throughout much of the day. They ended the game
outshooting the Blue Devils by a 20-10 margin. In addition to Young’s six shots,
Michael Zoellner and Sal Tadjalli posted four apiece.
The defense excelled for the Hens, allowing only two Blue Devils to only two
players registering more than one shot. Alex Harrison led Central Connecticut
with five shots.
Thames (Olney, MD/Georgetown Prep) posted the shutout in his collegiate
debut.
The Hens return to action on Sunday against George Washington in their home
opener. Game time is at 1 p.m. in the Delaware Mini-Stadium.
