PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware men’s soccer squad closed out its 2005 season with a 1-0 setback to host Drexel Thursday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association action.
Drexel’s Derek Bickford scored off a rebound 29 minutes and 22 seconds into the first half for the only goal of the game as Drexel (4-11-3, 3-6-2 CAA) snapped a three-game losing streak to end their season.
Delaware, which was coming off its only conference victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Georgia State Oct. 30, finished its season with a record of 2-12-4 (1-8-2). The Hens were shutout for the 11th time this season and finished with their lowest win total since 2002.
The game was the 53rd all-time meeting between the two rivals since 1947 with the Dragons winning for the ninth time in the last 10 meetings between the two schools.
Drexel outshot the Hens 14-9 and held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks. Delaware goalkeeper Chris Jones posted seven saves on the day while Blue Hen freshman Matt Laudeman took a team-high five shots.
