HARRISONBURG, VA -- James Madison’s Kurt Morsink recorded two goals and an assist in leading the Dukes to a 5-1 win over Delaware in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s soccer match on Sunday.
The Dukes (8-3-1, 4-1 CAA) scored twice in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead on Morsink’s first goal at 23:31. Nearly 12 minutes later JMU doubled its lead when Jon Britton scored on the rebound of a shot by Morsink.
Just over eight minutes into the second half, Delaware (1-9-3, 0-5-1 CAA) cut the lead in half on Matt Laudeman’s first goal of the season. The goal was the first for the Hens in 642:08 of game action, dating back to Sobhan Tadjalli’s goal in the 1-0 win over Navy on September 21.
After Laudeman’s goal, the Dukes regained a two-goal advantage on Morsink’s second goal of the day at 70:52. Jon Britton tallied again for the Dukes at 79:16, and the scoring was capped by Kyle Morsink’s goal at 85:30.
Taylor Thames made two saves in goal for Delaware, while Kevin Trapp posted three saves to earn the win for James Madison.
The Blue Hens will return to action on Friday when they host George Mason at Delaware Mini-Stadium at 7 p.m.
