WILMINGTON, NC -- UNC Wilmington’s Russell Bienias scored two goals to lead the Seahawks past the University of Delaware men’s soccer team, 6-1, on Friday night.
The Seahawks (8-6-2, 3-3-2 CAA) took the lead at 5:25 on an own goal. Just over 20 minutes later, Chris Murray gave UNCW a two-goal lead when he scored from 20 yards out on a breakaway. Sam Leger added his eighth goal of the year, assisted by Murray, to give the Seahawks a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Delaware freshman Matt Laudeman scored his second goal in four games when he put a loose ball past Seahawk goalie Brad Knighton, cutting the lead to 3-1 only 2:55 into the second half.
But after the goal the Seahawks came back strong, with Bienias restoring the three-goal lead only four minutes after Laudeman’s goal. One minute and nine seconds later he added his second goal. Chris Mobley added his first goal of the season with under five minutes to play to cap the scoring. Will Clark recorded two assists for UNC Wilmington.
Chris Jones made six saves for the Blue Hens (1-11-4, 0-7-2 CAA). Knighton posted two saves to earn the win for the Seahawks.
The Blue Hens will return to action on Sunday when they travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia State at 1 p.m.
