NEWARK, DE -- Bill Paugh (right) scored his first goal of the season to break a 2-2 tie with only 4:49 remaining and Paul Danaher recorded a goal and an assist in leading the University of Delaware men’s soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Drexel University Thursday night in the season finale for both teams.

Dominick Balsamo scored both goals for the Dragons (6-11, 2-9 CAA) while Taylor Thames made two saves and recorded an assist for Delaware (6-8-2, 4-7 CAA).

Drexel took a 1-0 lead on the game’s first shot when Balsamo beat Thames low to the lefthand corner from about 20 yards out. The Hens responded six minutes later when Sobhan Tadjalli scored his ninth goal of the year. Thames booted a free kick upfield, and Tadjalli collected it and got behind the Dragon defense and locked the game at one.

Halfway through the first half, Danaher gave Delaware its first lead of the night, finishing off a one-touch feed from Anthony Talarico to the left side of the Drexel net.

Balsamo’s second goal of the game came halfway through the second half and tied the game at 2-2 before Paugh headed home a free kick from Danaher with the winning score.

Before the game, Delaware honored its six seniors including Michael Bratus, Hayes Glanden, Matt Haney, Anthony Molinaro, Anthony Pezza and Talarico.

The Hens entered the game needing one goal to double last season’s total of nine, and finished the year with 21. Delaware’s six wins are the most since the 2001 team won seven games and its four conference wins are the most since the ‘01 team won four. In addition, Ian Hennesy’s six wins are the most ever by a first year head coach of the men’s soccer program.
