NEWARK, DE -- Senior co-captain Anthony Talarico (right) recorded the second two-goal game of his career and Sobhan Tadjalli added a goal and an assist in leading the University of Delaware men’s soccer team to a 3-1 win over Georgia State on Sunday afternoon at Delaware Mini-Stadium.
Jonathan Curry-Edwards made eight saves for the Blue Hens (5-6-2, 3-5 CAA) in picking up his first win at Delaware. Filipe Carvalho made seven saves for the Panthers (1-13, 1-7 CAA).
The game was a defensive struggle through the first half, before Georgia State broke through seven minutes into the second. Dathan Knott headed home Floreal Pedrazo’s cross pass to put the Panthers up 1-0.
The Hens tied the game at 1-1 when Sobhan Tadjalli scored his team-best eighth goal of the season less than nine minutes later. Two Delaware shots had been blocked or stopped by Carvalho, and Tadjalli put home the Hens third chance of the sequence to tie the game.
Less than 30 seconds of game action later, Talarico redirected a free kick past Carvalho to give the Hens a lead they would not relinquish. Talarico’s second goal of the game came seven minutes later off a feed from Michael Bratus.
Delaware outshot Georgia State 15-12 for the game after being outshot 7-5 in the first half.
The Hens will return to action when they travel to Boston to take on Northeastern on Friday at 7 p.m.
