NEWARK, DE -- Anthony Talarico (right) scored with only 13 seconds remaining in regulation and Sobhan Tadjalli scored his second goal of the day 5:12 into overtime to give the University of Delaware men’s soccer team a 3-2 overtime win over No. 21 James Madison at Delaware Mini-Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The win marked the second consecutive Sunday that the Hens defeated a conference rival they had never beaten before. The Hens were 0-8-2 in 10 previous matchups against James Madison before today’s match. The Hens ended an eight-game winless streak against William & Mary last Sunday. The win also marked the first for Delaware against a ranked opponent since defeating No. 24 Central Connecticut State, 2-1, in 2004.

Delaware (4-3-2, 2-2 CAA) took the lead 29:09 into the match when Tadjalli scored his fifth goal of the season on a breakaway from about 40 yards in. The Dukes (8-2, 3-2 CAA) responded only 16 seconds later when Kyle Morsink put home a loose ball from in close to tie the game.

The Dukes controlled play throughout most of the second half, and took the lead when Kurt Morsink drove home a shot from 15 yards out in the center of the field 20 minutes into the second stanza.

Madison seemed to have the game in hand until Tau Blau fed a pass up to Talarico, who went in on JMU goalkeeper Kevin Trapp and beat him low to the right side to tie the game with just 13 seconds left on the clock.

Two minutes into the overtime session the Hens gained a man advantage when JMU’s Ekom Etuk was issued a red card. Less than three minutes after that Bill Paugh sent a long pass up to Tadjalli, who got behind the Duke’s defense, eluded Trapp and put the ball into the empty net to give the Hens the win.

Trapp made two saves for the Dukes, while Taylor Thames made four saves in the win for the Blue Hens.

The Hens will return to action on Friday when they travel to George Mason to take on the Patriots at 7 p.m.
