BROOKLINE, MA -- Northeastern’s brother combination of freshman goalkeeper Mahmoud Talaat and junior forward Ahmed Talaat was the difference Friday night as the University of Delaware dropped a 1-0 decision to the Huskies in Colonial Athletic Association men’s soccer action at Parsons Field.
The Blue Hens, who most likely will need to win their final two regular season games to earn one of six spots in the upcoming CAA Tournament, fell to 5-7-2 (3-6 CAA) as they dropped their fourth decision in the last five games. The Hens equalled Northeastern’s total of four corner kicks and were outshot just 9-8 but couldn’t put the ball in the net.
Northeastern won its fourth straight game to improve to 6-9-2 (4-4-1 CAA) as the Huskies shutout the Blue Hens for the fifth straight time in the all-time series.
Ahmed Talaat scored the game’s only goal as he took a feed from Greg Kilkenny and scored past Delaware goalkeeper Jon Curry-Edwards (at right) with just 23:47 left to play. The goal was Talaat’s fourth of the season.
Mahmoud Talaat, last week’s CAA Rookie of the Week, posted his second straight shutout as he recorded three saves. Curry-Edwards also made three saves for Delaware.
Anthony Talarico, Matt Laudeman, and Sobhan Tadjalli each had two shots for the Hens.
Delaware will close out the regular season Oct. 22 at home vs. Hofstra and Oct. 26 at home vs. Drexel.
