NEWARK, DE -- Chris Murray’s second goal of the game came with only 2:46 remaining to lead the UNC Wilmington men’s soccer team past the University of Delaware, 2-1, on Friday evening at Delaware Mini-Stadium.

Brad Knighton made seven saves for the Seahawks (8-5-1, 3-4 CAA) while Jon Curry-Edwards made four saves for the Blue Hens (4-6-2, 2-5 CAA).

The game featured end to end scoring chances in the first half before settling down into a more controlled defensive game in the second stanza.

Sobhan Tadjalli (right) scored his seventh goal of the season to give Delaware the lead just over 30 minutes into the contest. Tadjalli corralled a UNCW turnover and moved around Knighton to put his seventh tally of the season into the empty net.
The Seahawks countered less than 10 minutes later with Murray’s first goal of the night.

The Seahawks almost took the lead with 20 minutes remaining, but Will Friesinger’s shot from 30 yards out was pushed just over the crossbar by a leaping Curry-Edwards.

With just 2:46 remaining, Murray took a shot that was blocked by a Delaware defender. He then gained control of the rebound and took advantage of the Delaware defense being out of position from the first shot and scored the game-winner.

Tadjalli led all players with five shots and the Hens outshot UNCW 12-10 on the night.

Delaware welcomed back more than 20 men’s soccer alumni at halftime of the game. The Hens will return to action when they host Georgia State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
