NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware men’s soccer team took an early 1-0 lead, but Virginia Commonwealth University scored three consecutive goals over the next 50 minutes to earn a 3-2 victory over the Hens on Friday night at Delaware Mini-Stadium.

Pat Viray, Forsan Asad-Radwan and Matthijs Maruanaya scored for VCU (4-6, 2-1 CAA) while Sobhan Tadjalli (at right) had a goal and an assist for the Blue Hens (3-3-2, 1-2 CAA).

The Hens took the lead 17 minutes into the contest when Matt Laudeman drove home his third goal of the season off a feed from Tadjalli on the right side. VCU answered back less than three minutes later when Viray’s turnaround shot from 10 yards out beat Delaware goalie Taylor Thames.

The teams took a 1-1 tie into halftime before Asad-Radwan gave the Rams the lead 12 minutes into the second-half. VCU took advantage of a Delaware turnover deep in its own territory to go up 3-1, as Maruanaya took control deep in Delaware territory and beat Thames to the lower lefthand corner of the net.

Down 3-1 with just over 20 minutes remaining, Tal Blau fed a pass through traffic to Tadjalli who took the feed and beat VCU goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra with his team-best fourth goal of the season.

Dykstra made one save for the Rams, while Thames made two in the loss for Delaware.

The Hens will return to action on Sunday when they take on #21 James Madison.
