NEWARK, DE -- Villanova University scored a goal in each half and held the University of Delaware scoreless in dealing the Hens their first loss of the season, 2-0, on Tuesday night at Delaware Mini-Stadium.

Dan DeMasters and Neil McNulty each scored their first goal of the season for the Wildcats. Sobhan Tadjalli (right) led the Hens with two shots.

Villanova (4-5-1) took the lead 18:20 into the match when DeMasters fired a rocket from 20 yards out past UD goalkeeper Taylor Thames into the lower lefthand corner of the net.

Delaware (2-1-2) appeared to tie the game in the early stages of the second half. Tadjalli gathered in a corner kick and his initial shot was blocked. He regained possesion and beat Villanova keeper Jason Friel, but the play was negated by an offside call.

McNulty scored his first goal of the season with less than eight minutes remaining, finishing off a series of passes from Michael Seamon and DeMasters.

Friel made three saves for the shutout for Villanova, while Thames made three saves for the Hens.

The Hens had been undefeated after four games for the first time since 1978, and sought to be undefeated after five for the first time since the 1975 team went 8-0-2 before losing its first game.

Delaware will return to action with the start of conference play this weekend. The Hens will play at #13 Old Dominion on Friday evening before travelling to William & Mary on Sunday afternoon.
