NEWARK, DE -- University of Delaware sophomore midfielder Kyle Davis has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District 2 All-Academic second team for men’s soccer.
Davis (right), a biology and biochemistry major from Hockessin, DE with a 3.91 grade point average, was among 23 players selected to the first and second teams based on their academic and athletic accomplishments. The voting was conducted by sports information directors at member schools.
To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must carry a 3.2 or better grade point index on a 4.0 scale, have at least sophomore eligibility, and be a starter or key reserve for their respective teams. District 2 includes all NCAA Division I schools in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
Davis, a graduate of Salesianum School who also sees time in the backfield, has made nine starts in his 11 games this season and anchored a defense that has recorded four shutouts. For his career, Davis has played in 23 games and taken one shot.
The Blue Hens defeated CAA front-runner Old Dominion on Friday, their first win over the Monarchs in 31 years. UD, which closes out its 2007 campaign at Drexel on Thursday, is 3-12-2 overall and 3-6-1 in CAA play under second-year head coach Ian Hennessy.
